Wedding Information
For Prospective Married Couples
Approved for distribution by the Offiicial Board
of Greenfield Park United Church, May 01, 2009
|
 |
You
have decided to be married in Greenfield Park United Church, thus indicating your desire to have the blessing of God upon
your new undertaking, and to proclaim in a sacred and Christian setting, the new relationship of love between the two of you
and the founding of your family unit.
Be
assured that we are desirous of making your wedding a memorable occasion, and will do all we can to assist you in the plans
for the service.
Whether
there are ten guests or two hundred guests, we want to emphasize the uniqueness of your wedding, distinct from all others.
You are two persons, each different from any other, whose coming together represents an entirely new event. Your Wedding Service
will never be duplicated because of persons involved, so we want to make it a cherished experience, upon which you can begin
your marriage with high hopes of many years of happiness.
We have listed the essentials in planning for your wedding. We recommend this information for your study, so that in
your marriage preparation course, with the Minister, you will be better informed as to the requirements for the wedding in
the church.

The Publication of Marriage........
Both
persons are required to be 18 years of age to be married without parental consent. A copy of Birth Certificates are required.
Divorced
persons must have a copy of the Judgement Absolute.
The
Minister must have the proper documentation before he can perform your wedding. It is advisable to bring the necessary documents
to the Church Office Secretary, before the rehearsal, to do the necessary filling out of forms.

The Music........
Music
for a wedding Service should be worthy of a Marriage Service. Every effort should be made to establish and maintain a prayerful
and dignified atmosphere. The choice of music used for, during and immediately following the service, the manner in which
it is played and sung .......all these add or detract from the spiritual meaning.
We
suggest that in order to keep the Wedding Service a constant spiritual movement, you choose, with the help of the Organist/Music
Director, your music with a thought to keeping it a Christian Act of Worship.
Therefore,
please consult with the Organist/Music director regarding your choice in music.
If
another instrument is to be played during the service, the Minster and the Organist/Music Director will be consulted regarding
what music is to be used. Singing along with tapes, we believe, often presents mechanical difficulties and is not a reliable
source for music at a wedding. The Minister and the Organist/Music Director will be consulted regarding music to be used before
the service. If it is desired that The Lord's Prayer be sung at a wedding, it is suggested it be sung during the service.
In
the Service of Holy Matrimony, the music should serve to reflect and intensify the mood and meaning of your marriage vows,
that this experience may be permanently set within your mind and heart.
Our Church Organist at Greenfield Park United Church
is Linda LaRoche and her telephone number is

Rehearsals........
The
Minister, an appointed Elder and the Organist will assist with the rehearsal. All parties who have responsibility in the service,
the Mother and Father of both Bride and Groom are welcome to attend the rehearsal. It is at that time that small details can
be worked out by enacting the service rather than by merely explaining the service verbally.

Photography........
The
Bridal Couple may engage a photographer who will take pictures of the wedding. The photographer may take pictures of the bridal
party, at the back of the church before they come down the aisle during the Processional, during the signing of the register,
and during the Recessional. He or she may take pictures from the back of the church during the service if it is done quietly
and without a flash. The photographer should consult with the Minister regarding the church's policy of taking pictures. We
ask that the movement of the photographer during the Wedding Service be discreet and sensitive, so as to not disturb the sanctity
of the Service.

Bulletins for the Wedding........
Greenfield
Park United Church does not prepare an Order of Service for Weddings, but will assist couples with information for them to
have an Order of Service prepared elsewhere.

Videotaping........
The
person should consult with the Minister regarding the arrangements for the videotaping. We ask that there be no movement during
the service of the person doing the filming.

Flowers, Decorations and
Candles........
There
may be baskets of flowers placed in the Sanctuary. Candles must be placed in the Sanctuary so as to not present risk of being
pushed over or of igniting veils and clothes.
Confetti........
We
respectfully ask people to refrain from the throwing of confetti or rice, inside or outside of the church building. This is
helpful to the Caretaker who is required to keep things tidy for the Sunday Service. Rose petals distributed during the Processional
is permitted.
